Standard amp diagnosis: £60
A fixed-fee, time-limited fault diagnosis for guitar and bass amplifiers. I find the fault and tell you in writing what is wrong, what it will take to fix and what that will cost.
What's included
- Visual and safety inspection.
- Power-up and fault reproduction.
- Measurements to trace the cause.
- A written diagnosis and a quote for the repair. No parts are ordered and no repair work starts until you approve the quote.
Which amps it covers
Amps of a normal type, and amps where I can get hold of a schematic. When you enquire I check whether I can get one and tell you then whether I can take your amp on at £60. If I can't, I will quote a different diagnosis fee before you send the amp.
Terms
- Time. The £60 covers up to 2 hours of bench time. If the diagnosis needs more, I will stop and ask you before going further.
- The fee is not deducted. The £60 is a separate charge for my time. It is not taken off any repair or service that follows.
- If you don't go ahead with the repair, you pay the £60 and collect the amp, or I return it at your cost.
- No fault found. The £60 is normally still payable because it covers the time spent. At my discretion I may return the amp without charge.
- Not economic to repair. If I find the amp can't sensibly be repaired, I will say so and the £60 is payable.
- Payment. Due when I tell you the diagnosis is complete, before the amp is released.
- Quotes. Your repair quote is valid for 15 days and is based on what I find. If I find something new once work has started, I will stop and re-quote before carrying on.
- Parts. Charged at cost, and only ordered after you approve the quote.
- Existing condition. Older amps can carry hazards such as high voltages, failing capacitors and earlier repairs. I note what I see when the amp arrives. I am not responsible for faults that were already present, or for components I haven't been asked to work on.
- Liability. Limited to the cost of the work carried out. Nothing here affects your statutory rights.
