What came in
An Electro-Harmonix Hot Wax dual overdrive. The customer's diagnosis was pretty accurate: someone had stomped on it hard enough to kick the indicator LED for the Hot Tubes circuit clean off the board. No LED, no legs — just two bare solder pads where it used to be.
What we found
The PCB itself was fine — no cracked traces, no lifted pads, nothing else damaged. The Hot Wax has two completely independent overdrive channels, each with its own footswitch and indicator LED. The Hot Tubes channel was still passing signal, it just had no light to show for it. The Crayon circuit on the other side was completely unaffected.
What we did
Full strip-down, chassis opened, PCB out. The exposed pads were cleaned up, a matched replacement LED fitted and soldered in the correct orientation, and the pedal fully reassembled. Both channels tested and confirmed working, both LEDs lighting as they should.
Both channels confirmed working — Hot Tubes and Crayon LEDs lighting as they should
As good as new. Both circuits working, both LEDs on — the only evidence anything happened is the repair on the bill.
